In 1985, the first smart credit cards were tested, and the tiny chip inside them was basically an 8-bit computer.
Running at around 5 MHz with 64 KB of RAM, these cards had almost the same power as an Apple IIe; but they lived in your wallet instead of on your desk.
Amazing how long we’ve been carrying full computers without even realising it.
