If you've ever wondered how much interest you'd save by making an extra payment on your mortgage, I've created a calculator to answer that question. It's free.

It takes your loan balance, interest rate, and maturity date (or time remaining) and calculates how much you'd save with a one-time extra payment or if you added something extra to each monthly payment.

It will also calculate how much that extra payment would potentially grow to if you invested it in the stock market instead. You can set the rate of return and it defaults to 8% as a conservative figure, since the S&P 500 has returned roughly 10.1% annually over the last 30 years.
